Brooklyn Reform Chair calls on Pam Harris to resign so seat is included in Special Elections

Gov Cuomo issued proclamation for 11 State Special Elections on April 24th.

In response to Governor Andrew Cuomo issuing a Proclamation on Monday for special elections on April 24th to fill eleven state Senate and Assembly vacancies, the Chairman of the Kings County Reform Party today called on Assemblywoman Pamela Harris (D- 46th AD) to immediately resign so this seat can also be included in these elections.

Bob Capano, Chairman of the Brooklyn Reform Party and a resident of the 46th Assembly District in Bay Ridge stated, “Assemblywoman Harris has the opportunity to finally do the right thing for her constituents by immediately resigning so that residents can elect someone to properly represent them in Albany. Although the headlines and shock of her indictment has dissipated, the fact remains she is ineffective and toxic in Albany. Residents of the 46th Assembly District deserve a voice in Albany this year, not someone who legislators are avoiding. How can she get anything done for us if no one wants to work with her?” Capano noted that the last time news was posted on her website was December 14, 2017.

According to Section 42 of the New York State Public Officers Law, the Governor has the authority to set special elections for vacancies in the legislature. Capano, who has also been an adjunct Professor of Political Science for over 15 years, said that if Harris immediately resigns it makes sense that Cuomo would add the 46th Assembly District to the list of special elections scheduled for April 24th.

The district includes Bay Ridge, Bath Beach, Dyker Heights, Brighton Beach, Coney Island, and Seagate in Brooklyn.
