Capano: Dems Must Denounce Radical Leftist El-Yateem

Socialists’ Backing Runs Counter to Brooklyn & Nation

Being “opposed to an economy organized for private profit” is radical and wrong!

Bob Capano, a fighter for lower taxes and leading Republican City Council candidate for the 43rd District (Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights, Bensonhurst, Bath Beach) today called upon the Democrat candidates running for the 43rd Council District seat to denounce the endorsement of their fellow candidate, Palestinian cleric Khader El-Yateem, by the New York City Democratic Socialists of America. Capano called the endorsement, “a clear signal that El-Yateem’s political views are out of touch with Brooklyn and the nation.”

In addition to receiving the endorsement of the group, El-Yateem is also described as a member of the far left group. On their website, the New York City Democratic Socialists of America state, “We are socialists because we are opposed to an economy organized for private profit that produces gross inequalities of wealth and power, discrimination based on race and sex, and brutality and violence in defense of the status quo.”

Republican Council candidate Bob Capano said, “The fact that Democrat candidate Khadeer El Yateem is a member of, and is supported by the New York City Democratic Socialists of America, an organization that is, ‘opposed to an economy organized for private profit’ is both radical and wrong!

“It’s a clear signal that El-Yateem’s political views are out of touch with Brooklyn and the nation.

“This nation was founded on the free enterprise system, where an individual’s hard work and toil is rewarded by financial profit. Khadeer El Yateem is obviously a radical leftist who believes in the redistribution of wealth and his election to the New York City Council would be a slap in the face to all New Yorkers who believe in the inalienable rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness as described in the Declaration of Independence.”

“If New Yorkers think they are paying high taxes now, they should just wait until a true radical like El-Yateem is sworn into the City Council. Today, I call on Khadeer El-Yateem’s opponents for the Democrat nomination for City Council; Justin Brannan, Kevin Peter Carroll, and Nancy Tong to strongly denounce his socialist beliefs and call on him to drop out of the race immediately.

“New York City was built by those who believed in the free enterprise system. It is a city that has turned individuals born with nothing into millionaires and billionaires. If Khadeer El-Yateem is so fond of socialism perhaps he should relocate to Cuba or Venezuela or a host of other countries that suffer under socialism’s ill conceived and unsustainable economic tenets.”
