NY Post Cites Violations of the Law at Bklyn Non-Profit
El Yateem is Candidate in Brooklyn City Council Race
Capano Calls for Investigation by NYS-AG Schneiderman
Bob Capano, the leading Republican candidate for Brooklyn’s 43rd Council District (Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights, Bensonhurst) and staunch supporter of the NYPD, today called on newly announced Democrat City Council candidate Khader El-Yateem (CD 43-Bklyn) and his radical left friend and political mentor Linda Sarsour to come clean on whether a non-profit they control was involved in political activity; a clear violation of federal laws. According to a report in the Monday, March 13th edition of the New York Post, El-Yateem serves as Treasurer of the Arab-American Association of New York which accepted more than $200,000 in New York City taxpayer dollars since 2014. Though her picture and title still remain on the organization website, Linda Sarsour reportedly stepped down recently as the Arab-American Association’s Executive Director.
Under the leadership of Sarsour and El-Yateem, the non-profit reportedly allowed the Muslim Democratic Club of New York to use their facilities for numerous events including a phone-bank operation for Senator Bernie Sanders’ 2016 presidential race.
Bob Capano said, “It’s shocking and its wrong whenever a non-profit is caught violating the law. It’s especially troubling when the treasurer of the non-profit is a cleric and a candidate for the New York City Council. Khader El-Yateem and Linda Sarsour need to come clean immediately and divulge what support was given to the Muslim Democratic Club and to the presidential campaign of Senator Sanders.
“Linda Sarsour is a radical leftist who has tweeted her belief in Sharia Law and associated with supporters of Hamas, so it’s not a surprise that she would use any means possible to use a non-profit to illegally promote her radical agenda, it’s sad that Khader El-Yateem would look the other way and violate not only state and federal laws but, also his fiduciary responsibility to those who donated to the Arab-American Association. He should resign immediately from the Association and also drop out of the City Council race.
“Under New York State law, Eric Schneiderman, the New York State Attorney General is responsible for oversight of all non-profits in the Empire State. I call on his office to immediately initiate an investigation of the actions of the Association and the role El-Yateem and Sansour in the support given to the Muslim Democratic Club of New York.”
